Set against present day Cuba, this character driven documentary tells the remarkable story of African-American freedom fighter Laverne Cheri Dalton whom we will come to know as Nehanda. Wanted by the FBI on charges in connection with the 1981 Nanuet, New York Brinks armored-car holdup that left one Guard and two Police Officers dead. Nehanda was pursued across the United States by the FBI and became a fugitive at large. Forced underground, she eventually found political asylum in Cuba. Over thirty years later, Nehanda is still coming to terms with exile and the consequences of leaving her two young children behind. In this controversial film about an aging revolutionary, we present a compelling and emotional testimony of one woman’s struggle to freedom.
